It takes 30 minutes or less for a glass company to repair a chip. Chip repairs are much quicker than windshields replacement. You can choose a reputable shop, drive in, and have the chip front window repair on your way to work without even scheduling an appointment. If you are saying you do not have time to have the repair done, it really is not a relevant excuse.
You will next see what is called a parting bead which is a small trim piece about 1/2 inch by 3/4 inch in size partially buried in the window casing. It separates the two sashes. I recommend replacing these and you will find they are very difficult to remove without splintering them. If you are repairing the window and not installing new side tracks you must replace the parting beads. The upper sash and weight removal is the same as the bottom. Don't forget to open the sash pockets at the bottom of the upper sash tracks as well to allow sash weight removals. With sash, weights, nails and pulleys removed, clean all loose paint from remaining surfaces and if your sure it is not lead paint, some sanding may be in order as well.

Additionally ensure your door furniture is clean and functional and the door knocker or bell works properly. The house number or name should be clearly visible and securely fastened.
For filling holes and finishing the windshield chip repair dent, a grinder or file can be used for removing the paint from that part and then filler can be used to shape. Filler can be of plastic or lead, the brand name of a popular plastic filler product is called Banda.
Be sure to get the vehicle identification number (better known as the VIN number). On most modern vehicles the VIN number is located on the drivers side dashboard and is visible by looking through the front window, drivers side. If it looks tampered with in any way then run the other direction!
